An introdution to Hypnotherapy.
All hypnotherapy sessions are charged at £70 per session.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a safe, natural, and effective therapeutic technique that uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness — often referred to as a "trance." Whilst in a trance, you are more open to positive suggestions, insights, and therapeutic change.
Contrary to popular myths, hypnosis is not about mind control or losing consciousness. You remain fully aware and in control, and can recall what happens during your session. Hypnotherapy allows you to bypass the critical, analytical part of your mind and access your deeper subconscious, where habits, emotions, memories, and beliefs are stored.
How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy works by helping you access the subconscious mind — the deeper part of your mind that influences your habits, emotions, beliefs, and automatic responses.
To understand how hypnotherapy works, it helps to know a little about the conscious and subconscious parts of your mind:
-
The conscious mind is the part you are most aware of. It’s responsible for logical thinking, decision-making, willpower, and critical judgment. It’s the part of your mind you use to plan your day, solve problems, and assess information.
-
The subconscious mind operates beneath conscious awareness. It stores memories, emotions, learned behaviours, habits, beliefs, and automatic responses. It’s much more powerful than the conscious mind and influences up to 90% of your thoughts and actions, often without you even realising it.
Typically, a part of your mind, called the critical faculty, acts like a filter between your conscious and subconscious. It checks new ideas and decides whether to accept or reject them based on what you already believe. While this can protect you in many situations, it can also get in the way of positive change, by blocking new, helpful ideas if they don't match old habits or beliefs, even if those beliefs are no longer helpful.
In hypnosis, this critical faculty is relaxed or "switched off." Through guided relaxation and focused attention, hypnotherapy helps you enter a deeply calm, inwardly focused state. In this relaxed state, your conscious mind becomes less active.
The critical, judgmental part of your mind quiets down.
Your subconscious mind becomes more open and receptive to positive suggestions and new ways of thinking.
This is why hypnotherapy can be so powerful for creating change. Without the usual resistance or internal arguments from the critical mind, beneficial suggestions, such as “I feel calm and confident” or “I can cope with stress in a healthy way”, are more easily accepted by the subconscious.
Over time, these new ideas can take root, replacing old patterns and leading to real, lasting transformation.
Importantly, hypnosis is a natural state that you experience in everyday life.
For example, you might drift into a mild trance while daydreaming, becoming so absorbed in a book, film, or your thoughts that you lose track of time. Hypnotherapy uses this natural ability in a focused, therapeutic way, always with your full awareness and cooperation.
You remain in control throughout. You cannot be made to do anything against your will. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process where the hypnotherapist acts as a guide to help you work towards your goals safely and effectively.

What to Expect in a Session.
Sessions usually begin with a conversation to understand your goals and ensure your comfort. You'll then be guided into a relaxed state, followed by therapeutic work specific to your needs. Each session is customised to your experiences, preferences, and desired outcomes.
You do not need to "believe" in hypnosis for it to work; simply having an open mind and a willingness to engage in the process is enough. Many clients find hypnotherapy to be deeply relaxing and empowering.
Is Hypnotherapy safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is a well-established, evidence-based practice. You are always in control and cannot be made to do anything against your will. At any time, you can return to full, alert consciousness if you choose.
Final Thought.
Hypnotherapy is a collaborative, empowering process. It helps you tap into your natural inner resources to create lasting, positive change. Whether you want to break free from limiting habits, manage stress, or achieve personal goals, hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool for transformation.

How can I help.
All hypnotherapy sessions are charged at £70 per session.
Hypnotherapy
As a fully qualified counsellor, psychotherapist and an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I bring a depth of therapeutic experience, understanding and professionalism to my hypnotherapy work. My counselling and psychotherapy background helps me to build a strong, trusting relationship with each client — creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel truly heard, understood, and supported.
From the very first session, I take time to get to know you as a whole person, not just your issue. I use empathy and active listening to fully understand your unique needs, experiences, and what you want to achieve through hypnotherapy. This insight allows me to tailor each session specifically to you so that any suggestions made during hypnosis feel meaningful, relevant, and aligned with your personal goals.
My background also helps me to work sensitively with underlying emotions, thought patterns, and life experiences that may be linked to the issue you’re bringing. This integration of counselling and hypnotherapy means our work together can go deeper than surface-level symptoms, helping you create lasting change with warmth, care, and professionalism.
Hypnotherapy uses deep relaxation and focused attention to access the subconscious mind, where your habits, beliefs, and emotional patterns are stored. In this deeply relaxed state, you're more open to therapeutic suggestions that support your well-being and help you make the changes you want to see in your life.
I offer hypnotherapy for a range of issues, including:
Confidence and Self-Esteem Issues
Hypnotherapy can help build your inner confidence and sense of self-worth by gently challenging limiting beliefs held at the subconscious level. Whether you’re struggling with self-doubt, fear of failure, or a harsh inner critic, hypnotherapy works to reframe negative self-talk and reinforce a more empowered, compassionate view of yourself.
Stress and Anxiety
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool for calming the nervous system and easing the physical and emotional symptoms of stress and anxiety. It can help you regain a sense of control, manage overwhelming thoughts, and feel calmer in situations that may have previously triggered worry or tension. When stress is reduced, the stress hormone cortisol is reduced, which encourages us to feel better, sleep better and cope more easily with the demands of life.
Situational Stress and Anxiety (such as exam stress or wedding nerves)
Whether you're preparing for important exams, interviews, or your wedding day, hypnotherapy can help reduce performance anxiety, improve focus, and boost your self-belief. It allows you to rehearse success and stay calm, confident, and in control when it matters most.
Phobias
From fear of flying or heights to spiders or public speaking, hypnotherapy can help you overcome phobias by gently desensitising you to the fear and creating new, more balanced responses. We work at your pace, always with your comfort and safety in mind.
Sleep Issues
If you’re struggling to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake feeling rested, hypnotherapy can help reset your sleep patterns. It promotes deep relaxation and addresses subconscious blocks, such as racing thoughts, stress, or nighttime anxiety, to support healthier, more restful sleep.
Pain Management and Chronic Conditions
Hypnotherapy can be a helpful complementary approach for managing chronic pain and ongoing health conditions such as:
-
IBS
-
Crohn’s disease
-
Fibromyalgia
-
Endometriosis
-
PCOS
By working with the mind-body connection, hypnotherapy can reduce pain perception, ease tension, support relaxation, and help you feel more in control of your symptoms.
Menopause and Perimenopause Support
The hormonal and emotional shifts of menopause and perimenopause can affect mood, confidence, concentration, and sleep, to name a few. Hypnotherapy can help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, ease hot flushes, and support emotional balance — helping you navigate this transition with more calm and confidence.
Weight Management
Hypnotherapy can support a healthier relationship with food, body image, and motivation. By working with your subconscious patterns around eating, emotional triggers, and lifestyle habits, it can help you make sustainable changes that feel manageable and self-compassionate — rather than based on restriction or guilt.
Unhelpful Habits (Smoking, Alcohol, etc.)
If you're looking to reduce or stop habits like smoking or drinking, hypnotherapy can support this process by addressing the underlying emotional or behavioural patterns. It helps reinforce your motivation and supports you in feeling more in control of your choices.
Hypnotherapy for General Relaxation
Hypnotherapy isn’t just for addressing specific issues — it can also be a deeply effective way to promote general relaxation and emotional well-being. Through guided relaxation techniques, hypnotherapy can help you let go of daily stresses, release built-up tension, and create a lasting sense of calm.
Regular sessions can support better sleep, improved mood, reduced anxiety, and a greater ability to cope with life's challenges. It’s a powerful way to prioritise your mental and emotional health, allowing you to reconnect with a sense of inner peace and balance.
Ready to Take the Next Step?
If you're curious about how hypnotherapy could help you, I’d be happy to talk things through with you. I offer an initial free 20-minute consultation to explore what has brought you to seek hypnotherapy and how we could potentially work together.
In our first full session (50 minutes), we’ll explore the specifics of your presenting issues and what you would like to achieve, whilst also answering any questions you may have. This first session is more of an information gathering session for me to fully understand the specifics of your individual needs. Generally speaking, no hypnotherapy will happen within this first session.
Everyone is unique, and every presenting issue is different. Therefore, giving the exact number of sessions required to achieve the desired results is difficult. For example, phobias generally require four sessions, but some people require more, and some require less. However, you will know and feel when you have achieved your desired results. We will discuss the potential sessions needed during the initial free consultation.
You don’t need any previous experience of hypnotherapy — just a willingness to explore change in a safe, supportive environment. Feel free to get in touch to book a session or ask if you'd like to know anything.
All hypnotherapy sessions are £70 per session.
